The US Fish and Wildlife Service is offering this grant to combat Hydrilla infestations in the Connecticut River and its watershed. Funded with $250,000 from FY2023 Congressional appropriations, this grant’s primary purpose is to prevent the further spread of Hydrilla, first detected in 2016, into inland and tributary waters. Key objectives include expanding surveillance for early detection, enabling rapid response to new infestations, and managing existing populations. Furthermore, it supports education and outreach to enhance public awareness and influence water user behavior regarding this invasive aquatic plant, protecting the critical New England watershed.
