The US Fish and Wildlife Service collaborates with the Saiga Conservation Alliance to protect the critically endangered saiga antelope. The grant aims to conduct fieldwork across the saiga’s Central Asian range, leveraging the Alliance’s established network and expertise. Applicants should demonstrate a history of engagement in saiga conservation in the region. Due to challenges in establishing contacts, the 2011 competition is vital for enhancing conservation efforts in countries like Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Russia, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. Closing date for applications: August 31, 2011.

Description:: |
In partnership with the US Fish and Wildlife Serivce, the Saiga Conservation Alliance will provide support for the critically endangered saiga antelope. Fieldwork will be conducted throughout the Central Asian range of the saiga. This grant will build upon existing grant support provided by the Saiga Conservation Alliance and utilize that organization’s advanced network of contacts in Central Asia and Mongolia. The applicant has a well-established network of contacts in Central Asia regarding saiga antelope conservation and a record of accomplishment of contributing to saiga conservation. Competition in 2011 would not be practicable based on the difficulty for FWS to establish contacts due to technical and language barriers with the appropriate conservation agencies and organizations in the saiga range states of Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Russia, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. |
