This grant is for cooperative research and monitoring of fishers in the northern Sierra Nevada, provided by the US Fish & Wildlife Service to the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS). WCS will supply field technicians and a project manager. Collaborating with CDFW, USFWS, Sierra Pacific Industries, and NCSU, the project aims to fulfill research and monitoring needs identified in the Service’s Candidate Conservation Agreement with Assurances (CCAA) for the fisher. A key objective of the CCAA, supported by this grant, is to translocate fishers—a candidate ESA species—to reintroduce them into historical range areas. This initiative also studies fisher responses to timber harvest practices within managed forests.
