Description: The US Geological Survey, John Wesley Powell Center for Analysis and Synthesis, is offering a funding opportunity to evaluate how past, current, and future scenarios of global land-use change influence global rates and spatial patterns of biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) rates on Earth This analysis will fill in a gap in knowledge of the global spatial distribution of land-use effects on terrestrial BNF, and how this has changed over time. Work is expected to combine models developed that estimate global spatial BNF patterns using land-use and cover global map products available from 10,000 BCE to 2015 and make projections into the future up to 2100. This work will map how BNF rates and overall N inputs would prevail both in the absence of land use, and their change through time per grid cell as land use has intensified.
