Agency Name: Nepal USAID-Kathmandu
Description: The purpose of the “Civil Society Mutual Accountability Project” is to strengthen the enabling environment for Nepali civil society and media, enhance the capacity of Nepali Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to collaboratively and constructively engage in policy advocacy, and support broad-based, cross-sectoral initiatives that monitor, report, and demand greater effectiveness and accountability in governance and public service delivery. For the purposes of this Project, civil society includes non-governmental media outlets, member-based organizations, associations, federations and not-for-profit organizations.

The goal of these efforts is a more legitimate, accountable, and resilient Nepali civil society and media that are capable of advancing the public interest. USAID will support civil society strengthening activities, including core capacity development of select local partners, to achieve the following set of interrelated and self-reinforcing objectives:

1. Strengthened enabling environment for civil society and media
2. Improved civil society and media capacity for effective policy advocacy and government engagement
3. More coordinated and effective civil society and media oversight of public resource use and service delivery
4. Strengthened organizational capacity and sustainability of CSOs working in USAID priority sectors.
