| Description:: | USAID/Uganda under Development Objective 3; Improved Health and Nutritional Status in Focus Areas and Populations (DO3) anticipates awarding a five year program to a qualified indigenous local, regional or international organization to provide technical assistance to the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Program (NTLP). The activitys goal is to increase Tuberculosis (TB) Case Detection (CDR) and Treatment Success Rate (TSR) in focus areas to meet national targets for reducing the burden of TB; MDR TB and TB/HIV. By strengthening the capacity of Ugandas National TB and Leprosy Program, this activity shall provide innovative TB control strategies in Kampala and districts with existing USAID TB programs. This mechanism shall implement the following activities: a) Strengthen the NTLPs leadership and technical capacity to effectively manage TB control in Uganda b) Expand community based DOTS in Kampala to reduce the rate of patients defaulting TB treatment in the Kampala c) Scaling up management of MDR TB in selected districts to prevent further MDR-TB emergence d) Technical assistance to, and improved coordination of USAID supported partners implementing district based activities to ensure the alignment of their activities with national TB program guides, policies and targets Expected results at the end of five years include: 1. Enhanced NTLP leadership and technical capacity for planning, monitoring and implementation of TB control activities 2. An effective Urban DOTS model with community based DOTS implemented to increase TSR to 85% by the end of the project 3. High quality Program for the Management of MDR TB Implemented 4. Improved coordination and implementation of DOTS, TB/HIV, and community based MDR TB interventions within USAID TB programs |
