The US Fish and Wildlife Service is offering this grant for the discovery, validation, and genotyping of approximately 10,000 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in 200 inconnu (Stenodus leucichthys) sourced from Alaska. This grant is for the purpose of advancing fisheries management and conservation efforts for this species. Specifically, the generated SNP data will be crucial for performing mixed-stock analysis on inconnu harvested in the Hotham Inlet winter subsistence fishery, providing insights into stock contributions. Additionally, this research will describe and evaluate the genetic population structure of inconnu across Alaska, contributing essential information for informed conservation and management decisions. The project aims to provide fundamental genetic tools for sustainable resource management.
