Additional Information

Agency Name: Geological Survey
Description: The US Geological Survey (USGS) is offering a funding opportunity for a research program to clarify and synthesize the effects of climate change on migratory bird populations, and to support the application of actionable scientific information to effective management and conservation of migratory birds. In support of this mission, we are pursuing the development of a climate-informed integrated population model for migratory birds based on MAPS data (Monitoring Avian Productivity and Survivorship). Climate change represents a significant stressor for multiple species of migratory birds. While effective management and conservation of this natural resource should be informed by full annual cycle models, the effects of climate change on key demographic parameters remains unclear for many species. MAPS data has the potential to elucidate the relationships between climate impacts and key demographic parameters for migratory birds, with important implications for species survival and population levels. This funding opportunity will go to support the development of a full annual cycle model which incorporates the demographic impacts of climate change.
