Description:

Master Cooperative Agreement Number P15AC01280 was entered into by and between the Department of the Interior, National Park Service, (NPS), and Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation to facilitate cooperation and collaboration in connecting people to the natural and cultural heritage of the Chesapeake region through the Captain Jolm Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail and their efforts to implement Executive Order 13508 for Chesapeake Bay Watershed Protection and Restoration.

Through a combination of actions, including increased access to natural, cultural, and historic resources, the availability of recreational equipment, and increased and targeted educational and interpretive opportunities, VA DCR will work to build future Chesapeake Bay stewards in the Commonwealth of Virginia. This project will:
(a) create an enhanced public water access facility at Widewater State Park and  This project highlights the ADA launch by providing custom programming and engagement with disabled veterans. Disabled veterans will be invited to lead: educational and natural resource programs associated with the Chesapeake Trail to trace stories of the native people of the Chesapeake Region; orienteering programs that educate users on water safety and navigation; and navigation challenge events.
(b) provide a mobile interpretive unit that will serve Virginia State Parks and Natural Areas along the Potomac, York, James, and Rappahannock Rivers.Provide the equipment and staff necessary for a mobile unit that will serve Virginia State Parks and Natural Areas along the Potomac, York, James, and Rappahannock Rivers.
