Additional Information on Eligibility: Applicants are limited to for-profit (commercial) organizations, nonprofit organizations, faith-based and community organizations, institutions of higher learning, and consortia with demonstrated organization and community-based experience working with American Indian and Alaska Native communities, including tribal for-profit (commercial) and nonprofit organizations, tribal colleges and universities, and tribal consortia. However, consistent with OJP fiscal requirements, for-profit organizations are not allowed to make a profit as a result of this award or to charge a management fee for the performance of this award.

Description: The purpose of this award is to provide funding to finalize the sampling design and survey development, and to administer the criminal appeals survey. This award focuses on criminal appeals disposed in calendar year 2010 and aims to obtain information on certain key case characteristics, including the types of criminal cases appealed to state intermediate appellate courts and courts of last resort, in addition to the disposition of criminal appeals, appellate case processing time, and the impact of appellate litigation on trial court outcomes.
