| Additional Information on Eligibility: | Federally recognized Indian tribes, as determined by the Secretary of the Interior1, including Alaska Native villages and tribal consortia consisting of two or more federally recognized Indian tribes, may apply. “Indian tribe” means any Indian tribe, band, nation, or other organized group or community (including any Alaska Native village or regional or village corporation as defined in or established pursuant to the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (85 Stat. 688), 43 USC §§ 1601 et seq.) which is recognized as eligible for the special programs and services provided by the United States to Indians because of their status as Indians. Additionally, an organization that is acting as the authorized designee of a federally recognized Indian tribe may apply. While all applications will require a tribal resolution or other satisfactory evidence of legal authority from the tribe as part of the application, only organizations that are tribal designees MUST submit this documentation as part of their Phase 1 application. Note: Applications submitted by ineligible entities will be removed from further consideration during the initial review process.
